Of every project we do, backsplashes get the most “how long” questions — probably because most homeowners have their kitchen fully or partially out of commission during the work. Here's what actually happens, day by day, on a typical Woodstock kitchen.
A typical timeline
- Day 1 — setting the tile. Outlets and switch plates come off, the wall gets a final clean and layout mark-up, and tile goes up with full mortar coverage. This is usually the whole day for an average kitchen.
- Overnight — cure time. Mortar needs time to set before grout goes on top of it.
- Day 2 — grout, caulk, and outlets. Grout gets packed and cleaned, caulk goes in at the counter and cabinet lines, and outlets are re-set flush.
So: most Woodstock backsplashes are a two-day job, and your kitchen is usable (just missing outlet covers) the same evening tile goes up.
What stretches the timeline
Intricate patterns like herringbone or a mosaic accent take longer to lay out and cut. A full-height splash behind a range hood adds cuts around vents. Natural stone sometimes needs a sealer step before grouting. And if the existing wall isn't flat or has old tile to remove first, add a demo day before day one above.
